How to make Fritters & Patties

These are an easy meal, especially if you follow this guide to create your own. Kids love being involved so invite them to help!
- pick a base - potato, flour, noodles etc
- add main flavour - a protein e.g. tuna\ kidney beans, or vegetable like zucchini or carrots
- add grated cheese or some feta
- add egg\s to bind mixture together - add a little milk if too thick
- add seasoning, spices or herbs of choice
- cover in breadcrumbs if you wish, or leave as they are
- shape to desired size or drop spoons of mixture onto lightly oiled BBQ  or frypan. Cook until each side is brown & patties are cooked through.

It doesn't come easier than this Shaker Vegie Fritter. Add all ingredients into a container, shake, pour & cook. Follow the guide above & use ingredients of your choice.

This is one recipe your children will jump up to help with!

Rainbow Rosti is an example of the recipe guide above - flour as a base, add grated veg, egg & seasoning. Shape & cook until golden each side.

Tip

Some patties freeze well when uncooked, especially ones that are potato or bean\lentil based. Follow the recipe but instead of cooking, pack in an airtight container with baking paper between the layers & store in freezer. You can defrost all or just what you need & they will be be ready to cook for dinner or as a lunchbox filler. Try these Tuna & Zucchini Patties

Did you know...

Did you know children under 8 years need at least 4-6 glasses of water a day, & those over 8 years need 6-8 glasses. Children get dehydrated easier than adults & don't always recognise that they're thirsty. It's important to encourage & remind them to drink water regularly.

Water is essential to life - without it our bodies stop working properly.

Be sure to send a full water bottle with your child's lunchbox each day!

Let's Look in the Lunchbox

Leftover Risotto was used to make this pattie by simply adding vegies & an egg to the mix. They were quickly pan fried & kept in the fridge ready to pack for lunches. A simple veg & fruit snack & some yoghurt made a colourful & delicious lunch.
