Non-animal Technologies Network to reduce our reliance on animal testing

The NSW Government has allocated $4.5 million for a targeted competitive research grant program to help reduce and replace animals in medical research. These funds are being used to establish a statewide Non-Animal Technologies Network (NAT-Net) to increase coordination, address regulatory barriers and build a more cohesive and stronger sector in NSW.

Preventing preterm births with targeted drug delivery  

More than 26,000 Australian babies are born premature every year. Enter Dr Jonathan Paul, a University of Newcastle Senior Research Fellow on a mission to ensure more pregnancies reach full term. Paul’s work has been supported by an Office for Health and Medical Research Early Mid-Career Grant

Blazing a trail in antibody and immunity research

Using next generation technologies, Dr Deborah Burnett’s research at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is tracking antibody responses in the area of protective immunity and autoimmune disease. Her research has led to important discoveries which have redefined the role of antibodies in health and disease. 

NSW Health creates a buzz at BIO 2024

NSW Health has made an impact at BIO 2024 in San Diego, showcasing world-leading biomanufacturing and clinical trials capabilities, particularly highlighting advancements in viral vectors and phage therapy. The annual NSW Breakfast Event attracted considerable interest, fostering new partnerships and discussions on the adoption of non-animal testing models in clinical research.

Call for abstracts closing: Luminesce Alliance Conference

Luminesce Alliance Conference is an opportunity to establish new and foster existing relationships with colleagues from local, national and international jurisdictions and learn about recent advances and the acceleration of research translation to high-impact outcomes.

You are invited to submit an abstract to support the theme 'Paediatric Precision Medicine: Advancing research and patient care.' Abstract submissions close 1 August.

The Office for Health and Medical Research has developed and released the NSW Health Research Handbook - a living document intended for localisation by NSW Health Organisations to govern their day-to-day operations involving human research activities.

Your feedback is essential to refine it for an updated release by January 2025. Download the Handbook and complete the Feedback Form to submit your insights by 20 December. Let's shape a research-enabling culture together!

Clinical trials workforce census

The Office for Health and Medical Research has developed the Clinical Trials Register of Staff (CiTRoS), to capture the current Australian clinical trials workforce.

If you work in clinical trials in any capacity, we ask for your support to complete the CiTRoS survey and invite your colleagues to do the same by 30 August. For additional information, please contact clinicaltrialsNSW at clinicaltrialsnsw@health.nsw.gov.au

NSW Health Commercialisation Training Program - Customer Discovery course

During 7 weekly workshops from 8 August - 19 September, you will build your knowledge and skills in science communication, pitching, market opportunity assessment, customer segmentation, building a commercial strategy, and learn how to attract investors, staff, and strategic partners.
