Bringing clinical trials closer to home for rural, regional and remote communities A program expanding access to clinical trials in rural, regional and remote NSW and the ACT is helping to deliver advanced healthcare to people who need it most. The Rural, Regional and Remote Clinical Trial Enabling Program is tackling the barriers often faced outside of metropolitan areas – such as limited local infrastructure, long travel distances and high costs – by actively supporting clinical trials across all healthcare settings. |

Novel 3D bioprinting device ‘prints’ skin-growing ink
A groundbreaking wound-healing method has been developed by Australian biotechnology company Inventia Life Science. Their specialised surgical robot, LIGŌ, uses a patient’s own cells to create a scaffold that promotes new skin growth. This innovative approach uses 3D bioprinting, a technique where living cells are combined with biomaterials to create a gel-like ‘bioink’ that can be printed directly onto wounds. The LIGŌ device was developed with support from the Medical Devices Fund, helping to accelerate cutting-edge medical technologies to clinical use.

Brian Cotterill is living proof of the life-changing power of clinical trials
After being diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer, Brian joined a pilot study that allowed him to self-administer chemotherapy injections at home. What once required weekly hospital visits of up to two hours became a treatment he could manage comfortably from home. Thanks to this trial’s success, this in-home option is now available to other eligible patients – improving quality of life and access to care. |
