Healthy@Home with Healthy Lifestyle

Dear Healthy Lifestyle participant,

What a delightful miracle to watch, two birds patiently weaving their nest making it ready to cradle new life! Here is the mother, to the right, and her progress captured in the series of images, below, over a month.

Like us putting strategies in place to look after ourselves and endure lockdown, to create a safe place to emerge into life and our communities.  Congratulations, you are amazing and well done!

In this newsletter, we continue our focus on spring, mental health and well-being and also highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is also in the October calendar.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis.

Take the time this month to find out what you need to know about breast awareness and share this important information with your family, friends and colleagues.

For information on breast cancer in men, visit Cancer Australia’s dedicated website, Breast Cancer in Men.

Breast Cancer Network Australia  has a fantastic website and a Helpline number with a team of experienced cancer nurses who can assist Australians affected by breast cancer and their family members - call 1800 500 258.

Art for Well-being

Last year the Art Gallery of NSW and the Black Dog Institute offered the opportunity to practise mindfulness and take some time out to engage deeply with artworks.

This wonderful series, titled Culture Dose, includes ten pre-recorded webinars, which gives you the opportunity to tune in, at home, when you wish. Keep an eye out as the Art Gallery of NSW and the Black Dog Institute will offer a new program which will be announced soon.

  3. Try to hold for 2/3 breaths.
  4. Return to the starting position and repeat to the other side.
  5. Repeat 2 to 3 times both sides.
